(G) I’ve tapered, I am resting and just doing some light running this week. Over the weekend, I wrapped up the official training for Outrun 24 with a 10-miler. While there wasn’t any major mileage in the last week I did manage to drop another toenail so I am going to be at the starting line on Saturday with 8 toenails and the great opportunity to sacrifice a few more by 8 am Sunday.
My goal for the Outrun this year is 100K (62 miles) but Swaggy J, in his usual form, has managed to talk me into attempting the full 24 hours. He even canceled our hotel reservation for Saturday night so I feel pretty committed. But his reasoning isn’t all bad. Since it will likely take me 18-20 hours to complete 100K why not hang around another 4-6 hours and get the 24-hour award?
The award? Yes, it’s this awesome mug!
They are also serving breakfast and promised to have some awesome vegan fare. And if I am still around for breakfast (I better be since I paid for it) I will be able to provide my own mug. Who doesn’t love a well-prepared breakfast guest?
Clearly more questions than answers at this point. I’ll have a full report next week.
(L) OMG! I mean I have a lot to say about my week, but it all seems so small compared to the fact that G is actually intending to run for 24 hours…for a MUG!! If she had said she really wanted to go the full 24 hours because she has this deep desire to prove to herself that she could do it, I could get behind that. A MUG? Girl, I will mail you a mug! All joking aside, I think it is awesome that she is going for it and next year hopefully we will be reunited in the craziness that is ultra torture..I mean, running.
So, my week has been eventful. I told you last week that I was eating more protein and little to no carbs. I was mistaken. My hubby informed me that it was, in fact, a High Fat, Low Carb diet. What? He had us relishing in fatty meat and grease bombs. I was rocking my workouts, although a little more tired with the no carb thing that was going on. By Saturday I could barely eat, but I was motivated because I was down 4 pounds! My excitement came to an abrupt end by mid-weekend as my stomach rebelled against the fat. I don’t care how much weight I could lose, and the hubby is down 10 pounds just like I predicted, I am OUT! Seriously, give me some fruit and a big salad! The good news is that yesterday I was back to normal and I am still down 3 pounds. I’ll take it. I am still working out 6 days/week and I feel really great.
My hip and back pain have been eliminated as the wheat and sugar have disappeared from my diet. Funny how that works. So, while my pants size remains steady I am definitely losing the inflammation and puffiness.
Good luck G. Run Far and stay strong during those 24 hours. Oh, and don’t forget to get your selfie with the real Pocahontas!

The Torture Report began in January 2014 as a weekly update of our journey to completing a 50-mile race. Since then it’s continued on to become a chronicle of how we try mightily to find fitness, health and sometimes the finish line. We aren’t always successful but we keep showing up and telling you all about it on Tuesdays.
