Welcome Home!

Last night, our Uncle Larry arrived home from his Honor Flight. He is a veteran of the Vietnam War. Part of our family gathered in-person to welcome him home. And another contingent joined virtually via text and FaceTime. We all wanted to offer him a glimpse of what he should have received when he returned home the first time: a warm and appreciative welcome.

For those of you who aren’t familiar, the Honor Flight Network was formed in 2005 by Jeff Miller and Earl Morse with a mission of honoring our nation’s veterans by bringing them to Washington, DC to visit the memorials and monuments dedicated to their service and sacrifice, according to their website.

It was an emotionally charged experience for the veterans as exemplified by their reactions to the hundreds of people gathered at Port Columbus to greet them upon their return. It was equally so for my family who collected to honor the service of our uncle and brother. We see how valuable and meaningful this project is for the families and those who have served.
