Fresh Starts: We’re Irish

I don’t know if you’ve heard but the Miller Girls are Irish — at least that’s what the DNA testing results told our sister, Baby Lisa.

All our lives we’ve thought we were German. And some of us have the cankles to prove it, which seems like more than enough evidence. What? That’s not scientific enough for you? OK we also have letters from the Mother Country that also indicate a clear connection to Germany. So technically part of our heritage is German it’s just not dominant.

According to our sister’s DNA, we are 51% Irish and we are sticking with it. Sure, we’ve read that even though we are full siblings that our DNA ethnicity may vary but we ask, why mess with a good thing?

This confusion about our heritage has led to some unexpected hijinx, like having to apologize to a psychic who told me I was Irish and I laughed. Later, I did write her a note to let her know it was my mistake. She was gracious and said she never doubts what the Angels tell her.

We, the Miller Girls, have been feeling a bit cheated since we’ve learned the truth and all three of us have said on more than one occasion that we have to make up for lost time. And 2018 is it. We plan to fully embrace our Irish-ness this year on March 17 and whatever Irish holidays there are. We, of course, are still clueless to what those may be as we are still getting used to the idea.

Thankfully, we are now a little further along after receiving Christmas gifts from Lowi.

Baby Lisa and I both got a gift from Lori but we had strict instructions to open them together. It took a little wrangling during the week between Christmas and New Year’s to get us together and then Lowi wasn’t available via FaceTime because she was skiing. Colorado, Snow, Slopes, you know. Not very Irish I might add but …

Anyway, we are now all the proud owners of Celtic Knot necklaces and Irish-themed key chains.

You can appreciate the surprise and laughter in the video below.

We are now thinking of changing our names. I am sure there is a way we can work O’Reilly, Siobhan or some other Irish-heavy name into our current monikers. We are open to suggestions.

Sunshine & Sarcasm,
Lowi & G
