Torture Report: September, Serious, Salad and Stuff

(G): This blog is brought to you by the letter S! S is for September, salad and SERIOUS.
That is how I am intending to approach the next 30 days. Getting my greens in for lunch and dinner and being serious about my training, my fitness but most importantly my health.
Yes, I’d like to drop some LBs but more importantly I want to get back to a place where I feel fit and I am not feeling that right now.
I have been up and down with my training because of my foot but the truth is some of that’s just been an excuse. Possibly, I was a little burned out or a little bit lazy but I am a lot ready to move on now.

I saw this post on Facebook yesterday and it was my call to action. And as luck would have it The Report, as it were, lands on the first day of this glorious month. Another chance to start over at Day 1… on a Tuesday. (go figure)

Since we last chatted I have had some family visiting so my schedule was a little wonky but now I have no excuses.
Friday was a lot like Monday for me, I started over. I hit the park and got in 5 miles walking and did a pretty intense strength workout and then was humbled, and I do mean humbled, by The Betty Rocker. I stumbled upon this video workout of 6 exercises you do for 45 seconds to 1 minute each. How hard can6 minutes be, you ask?

Rough!!!

First, I kinda knew it was going to be challenging cause these things always work out that way. In fact, I even shared it with Lowi, Shakira and Speedy. They weren’t exactly enthused about the idea. Well they might be interested in me doing it and reporting back but that’s about it.

Betty Rocker
If I haven’t proven before that I don’t have enough to sense to protect my dignity and self respect I am proving it today.

First check out, Betty Rocker crank out these exercises:

Yep, pretty awesome, right?

Now, check out my initial attempt. Not really the same, eh?!

Saturday, Swaggy J and I hit Heritage Trail and managed to get 8 miles in under 2 hours while walking. I was happy with that … what was slightly demotivating is that I couldn’t run 8 miles, at my best, that much faster. Oh reality… it does bite.

Monday arrived, as it always does, too soon and with a vengeance. The alarm pelted my ears with auditory insult at 5:30 am and again I was reminded that September is for Serious and Salad. I know yesterday was still August but sometimes we need a test-run. 🙂
I finished Monday with some appropriately difficult strength training AND that darn video workout again. And I did better this time but it’s still unbelievable. By unbelievable, I mean how hard it is and how bad I am at trying it.

Until next week… September is full of Seriousness and SALAD!

(L) I have no words…okay, I do.  I am in awe of G. She told me she videoed herself doing the workout and her review was nothing but negative.  I just watched her video and seriously? She looks great!  I don’t even want to try it.  I told her I would, but I lied.  Okay, I might try it, but I don’t think I will video it.  You know why?  I think it is best summed up in this photo I saw last week on Facebook.

Yep, that is what I would look like.

So, September, Seriousness and Salads?  I am looking for the month that looks like Christmas, Cookies and Chocolate.  Who is with me?

In all seriousness, I did get a workout in 6 out of 7 days last week, which feels pretty good. I just don’t feel very energetic because I am taking a large amount of allergy medicine and it’s not working.  In fact, it takes me 3 miles just to burn the fog off my brain each morning. So, I will take G’s September challenge and get serious.  And I will take my fake it until I make it attitude into my exercise routine and maybe I will start getting energized.

I hope I get a little energy for this weekend’s color run.  Although, I think there will be more walking, skipping and just plain having fun than actual running going on. I will have photos and an update next Tuesday.

The Torture Report began in January 2014 as a weekly update of our journey to completing a 50-mile race. Since then it’s continued on to become a chronicle of how we try mightily to find fitness, health and sometimes the finish line. We aren’t always successful but we keep showing up and telling you all about it on Tuesdays.
