(G) How quickly we crash post-race. Nine days have passed since the Outrun 24 2015 and aside from a few yoga classes last week and a short run/walk on Sunday I have been slow to get back to it.
I am taking it easy for two reasons but one is the most nagging. I have been ignoring some pain in my left hip for, oh well, 3 months now. And as pains are want to do, if you ignore them they get louder. After the 1 Day for KIA my hip really hurt but I blamed it on spending so many miles on concrete. With hip pain in tow, I continued to run and train for the Outrun.
My hip continued to nag and the pain began to radiate down my leg. Bad sign?
I then had two massages in as many weeks leading up to the Outrun. And that helped a lot but the pain never completely resolved. It seems I may have to do something drastic: Take time off!!!
OK not completely off but some time off from running. I am headed to acupuncture, MAT and some other good interventions to start some healing and relief and maybe that whole “taking time off” thing will just end up being nonsense. (Fingers crossed)
In the meantime, I will walk, yoga (yes it’s a verb), strength train and hope for the best. And there is no good reason I couldn’t do a plank or two. Here’s to resting on my 100K finish for another week it would seem.
(L) Apparently, our cornucopia of weather, house guests and the impending graduation party have me amped up a bit. Not in the way that I am working out a lot, but in the way that derails me. Yes, it’s just a graduation party, but for us that means we have family flying in to be with us. We are really excited, but at the same time since this has only happened one other time in our 22 years of living here we feel a little pressure to make it nice.
So, my physical activity has looked a little more like the, “wax on, wax off” exercises than running and lifting weights. I have been painting. In fact, while I was standing on the ladder for the third day in a row I was thinking how this would be translated into my torture report. I may not be ready for my bathing suit shot, but I arm ready to karate chop anyone who gets in my way.
And the diet…so as I predicted, the hubby has lost like 17 pounds while I refuse to get on the scale this week. He is doing great and has been working out 6 days/week, but as I told you before I cannot stomach all of that meat. So, I am back to my normal diet feeling good, but not losing any weight. Ugh!
Oh and since I am on the topic of failure…it has come to my attention that I agreed to share in the 2015 running mileage with G. I think I perhaps tried to block that from my memory? Anyway, I guess I had better get a move on with that. I hope she isn’t planning to take the last half of the year off in hopes that I will swoop in and take care of it. We all know I cannot be trusted with consistent physical exertion.
Until next week…

The Torture Report began in January 2014 as a weekly update of our journey to completing a 50-mile race. Since then it’s continued on to become a chronicle of how we try mightily to find fitness, health and sometimes the finish line. We aren’t always successful but we keep showing up and telling you all about it on Tuesdays.
