February Project: I Am …

I busted out the artsy supplies for this latest creation.


February: It’s all about love and we aren’t gonna fight it but we are going to give it a spin. This month, we are forging ahead with practicing self-care and part of that is self-love.

I have been revisiting Kristin Neff’s book “Self-Compassion.” By revisit, I mean I read the first 50 pages previously and got distracted. I’m starting to think now that my “distraction” was orchestrated by the Universe (God, Buddha, Goddess) knowing this would be a better time. And it is.

“Love, connection and acceptance are your birthright. To claim them you need only look within yourself,” Neff proclaims in her book. Now several months later I am in a different place than I was when I first started this book and I think much of it I wouldn’t have been ready to hear.

Now (I hope) I am.

We hope you are too because we are going to give ourselves, and you, permission to participate in the care and love of yourself.

First up, now that you’re feeling all warm and fuzzy, we’re embarking on an “I Am” Project.

This is a bold experiment in being honest about who you are.

This doesn’t involve or need anyone else’s opinion.

This, instead, is an affirmation of what you already know to be true. You may have difficulty verbalizing it to someone else but you can be bold. This is for you.

All the loving, strength-filled, grace-fueled things you can think of about yourself, write them down.

Made my list in my trusty journal! It’s all bright and flowery, very unlike me but I am working on it 🙂

Make the list as long as you want.

Try not to edit, censor or overthink it.

Then get out your post-it notes. If you don’t have any, get some.

The more colorful the better and start each one with I am… and then finish the sentence. Then post them all on a bulletin board, poster board, your bathroom mirror.. wherever.

After my little creation I opted to leave some space. I am hoping as the month goes on I discover new strengths about myself that I am ready to own.

This is a visual reminder of who you ARE. It’s a physical statement of the greatness you already possess. The attributes that you bring to any relationship or conversation are written out for you to appreciate about yourself.

The first step this month is to be clear, honest and transparent about what makes you lovable and worthy.

    i think this is a wonderful project. it seems the time is whirling by with no stopping and thinking, but this exercise will help remind me not only who i am, but if i am those things, what do i really want to be doing. thank you!

      Thanks Susan. You are so right! Time just whirls by so we do our best to find some mindful moments and evaluate. 🙂
