Belt Buckles… and other absurdities

Lowi and I had a chat yesterday about her youngest going to college, how baby ducks are my saving grace, and that we’d like this horror film that is 2020 to roll credits anytime, please.

We also agreed that we needed some fun and levity and so far the best I have is: I did a virtual race of 635 miles and all I have to show for it is this gaudy belt buckle — and I love it!

On Tuesday, John brought the mail in and as soon as I looked at the return address this little package I knew what was inside. I could feel the weight of importance that was inside. It was my finisher’s belt buckle. The hilarity of it all is that I am not sure I have worn a belt in 2020, not once. I do not own a belt that allows for the exchange of the buckle. Now that I think about it, I am not sure I wore a belt in 2019 either.

All this praise and glory to a belt buckle when I am not a frequenter of belts. It’s a silly thing in the running world. You do some big physical feat and they give you a belt buckle. I am not sure if it’s a rite of passage or a point of pride, but I do know — it’s a thing!

I have earned my second buckle in 8 months and yet haven’t had the need for a single belt. It’s a little absurd don’t you think? Somehow the absurdity seems appropriate when there is seemingly no limit to how absurd, ridiculous or “out there” we can get this year. I am beginning to consider wearing a belt with my yoga pants so I can show off this new tacky buckle. Do you think that would be weird? Do you think anyone would even notice at this point?

I am not certain of much these days but one thing I feel fairly confident about is that we need more laughter. We need to find humor in the silly things that we do or have done in this alternate universe we are living in.

A few examples in no particular order:

  • I smile at people while I am wearing a mask.
  • I have possibly eaten my weight in Boom Chicka Pop this year.
  • I have eaten chips and salsa nearly every day for the last month or more.
  • I have had full conversations with my cat, Bhakti and she’s learning to answer. Her variation of meows has gotten impressive.

How about you? Any silly absurdities you’d like to share about yourself?

Sunshine & Sarcasm,
Lowi & G
