Yesterday, was full of so many emotions for us. It was a day that had been pending for quite some time and we were scared. Truth be told, we are still slightly terrified.
You overwhelmed us with your positive comments and messages. The outpouring of support and encouragement was more than we could have hoped for and we are humbled by all of it. Thank you for being there as we took this giant leap of faith and showing us that there is joy on the other side of fear.
Earlier this week, a video of Will Smith came across my path. In this video he described his experience with fear and jumping out of an airplane. He recounted how he and his friends were on a weekend get-away when one night someone suggested they jump out of an airplane. They all agreed they should do it.
All night he tossed and turned fearing that, while they perhaps had too much to drink, some of them were serious about this excursion. He was terrified and wondered why any sane person would willingly jump out of an airplane.
The next morning he met everyone at the agreed upon spot hoping that nobody was actually serious about jumping. They were all there, they were serious and they were ready for the adventure.
As they drove to the hangar he described being scared. He thought of a million reasons why he shouldn’t jump out of the plane, but he also didn’t want to be “that guy” who was too chicken. He continued with the plan.
Soon they were geared up and in the plane. All he could think was, “what are you doing?”
Then he was standing at the open door with his toes just barely peaking over the threshold. There was nothing but fear.
They told him to jump on three. One, two…and he was pushed out of the plane.
Will Smith said, the only sensation I had in that moment was bliss. Everything up to that moment was fear. Everything the night before and the morning leading up to this moment was fear. Everything on the other side of being pushed across that threshold of fear was pure bliss. Stop wasting time fearing what is on the other side and jump. I promise you everything on the other side of our fear is joy.
I can’t say whether everything on this side of our “jump” is going to be blissful, but I have learned today to take the jump!
