(G): Jack Fr…. I know I can’t really bring myself to say it either. But “our friend” Jack was nipping at my nose on Saturday morning. It was 32 degrees and with the wind felt a whole lot colder. But I had committed to 18 miles and you know how that can be.
Such is the life when you start to get down to the nitty gritty of training you just feel like no moment can be wasted. You can’t leave anything in the tank. You gotta go big or go home. And overall, despite my lack of running, this weekend I put in 30 miles. OK technically it was 29.64 but I am rounding up because I feel like I deserve to. Feel free to discuss those merits amongst yourselves. I’ll wait.
Now that we got that out of the way, it was a great week. I trained hard and focused just like I had hoped to and since our last chat I have racked up 50 miles. I hit the weights, yoga, meditation and core consistently.
For some reason that wasn’t quite enough because I have a new challenge for myself. Really, I blame Swaggy J for this one. I am working on being able to do pull ups. I consider myself to be relatively strong. I can do military pushups. I do squats. I plank but pull ups have long been my nemesis. A few weeks ago while at the park, we rolled by pull up bars and Swaggy insisted we stop and give it a try.
He successfully completed one. I jumped up into mine and I give myself .25 on the completion scale. As these seeds tend to do, this one started to grow. So I bought a pull up bar. It’s not installed yet but I am hoping my Dad can come through on that task. He’s handy like that.
Until then, it’s full speed ahead on the training. There are 19 days until the race and really only one more tough mileage week. That would be this week. Twenty miles awaits me on Saturday and 12 on Sunday. Then it’s all taper and resting up.
Rest assured that next week Lowi will be back. She’s currently hunting down her mojo like half-priced Prada shoes.

The Torture Report began in January 2014 as a weekly update of our journey to completing a 50-mile race. Since then it’s continued on to become a chronicle of how we try mightily to find fitness, health and sometimes the finish line. We aren’t always successful but we keep showing up and telling you all about it on Tuesdays.
