Torture Report: Inspiration Received and Not Found


(G): You never know where inspiration will come from when you need it the most. This weekend, I got a healthy dose from my friend, Cassie. She is a badass triathlete and this weekend she completed the Chattanooga Ironman. Let’s be clear people this is not a sprint triathlon. This is a 2.4-mile swim, a 116-mile bike ride and then a marathon. That’s 26.2 miles!
And she finished 7th in her division and 228th overall out of 2,674 Ironman participants.

I will wait for applause….

I followed along online while she hit every check point. Swaggy J and I are geeks like that. I have never swam in a competition and I am not a cyclist so that was impressive all on its own but I do run. And let’s just say it, she is a warrior! I am inspired to train hard, it makes you want to train harder than you ever have. Not that I will ever do a triathlon but she was out there racing and I have never raced, per se. I go to races, I am a participant but I am not racing a single soul. Maybe I need to learn to try that? Maybe I need to take a race and redline it at the finish and see what’s possible.



I can’t get too crazy just yet because I am still working through this “injury.” It’s much better but at this point in the year there doesn’t seem much point to blow myself up. I am walking far and strength training hard so that might be a good way to wrap up. October is just a whisper away so I have just barely over a month to train. Essentially 31 days of dialed-in, no missing workouts, not half-assing it, getting to bed on time, healthy eating, staying hydrated commitment!

As September ambles to a close I have stayed true to my word about seriousness and salads :) It’s gone pretty well but the scale is my nemesis. We loathe each other like mean girls in a popularity contest. The claws are out…

In the last week, there have been some good, healthy eats tossed into the belly.

And the miles, yes it was a good mileage week: 42 to be exact. The foot held up well but it certainly didn’t complain when we went to acupuncture and got a little love after 14 miles on Saturday.

When you are walking and you have 14 miles on the agenda, you better start early!

It seems October is shaping up to be full of big goals and expectations… just the way I like it!

(L)  I feel like this torture report should be renamed, “One of these things is not like the other…”  Yep, week in and week out you read G’s professional prose about inspiration, digging deep and always getting it done!  She is the real inspiration in this equation.  If you need therapy, life coaching, a friend or cookies, call me.  If you need a running partner, wellness coaching, inspiration of any kind…G is your girl!

I am still getting outside 6 to 7 days at least and walking.  I did attempt to run one day and it wasn’t pretty.  This does not include the day I went to the trail and my friend says, “hey, let’s run a few feet just so you can report back in your blog that you actually ran this week!”

These are my friends, people!!

Actually, I about fell on the ground laughing because she knows me so well.  We all need friends that can call us out on our crap, but support our crazy at the same time.

So, in a nutshell G does inspire me to be better and I really want to be her running partner. If only she would move out here!  But, alas since she is not moving to Colorado I am looking for inspiration.  Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

The Torture Report began in January 2014 as a weekly update of our journey to completing a 50-mile race. Since then it’s continued on to become a chronicle of how we try mightily to find fitness, health and sometimes the finish line.
