Thankful Thursday: Gratitude Experiment Part 2

IMG_8889

A couple of weeks ago I told you that I was embarking on an experiment with the family regarding gratitude, while on vacation.  The plan was to have everyone state one thing that made them happy that day, 3 things they were grateful for and try to do random acts of kindness.  Well, we weren’t successful in doing it every single night for the two weeks, but there still were some revelations.

As always there was eye rolling and laughter at the thought of doing any coordinated activity that did not necessarily involve the sun and the beach.  I also had the whining about not wanting to do it and of course the gratitude for “being alive, breathing and I can’t think of anything else” answers.  However, most of the time that I reminded them that we were in fact going to do it they followed along.  As the vacation entered its second week the gratitude and happy moments were much easier to come by as we settled into actually all being in one space.

I began to notice the sweet thank yous, greetings, door holding and smiles that they freely gave to strangers on the street.

The biggest revelation though came on the nights we discussed our happiness and gratitude.  These were the nights that laughter filled the house as we went to bed.  The next morning also revealed smiling faces ready for another day in paradise.

How about you?  Did you try the experiment?  Let me know how it went for you.
