Thankful Thursday: Appreciation Day!

Appreciation Day

My least favorite holiday has come and gone. I have long been an abstainer when it comes to Valentine’s Day. I have many a reason and only a few of them are what you might think. But I am going to spare you all of them and instead share with you something that, to me, sounds even better.
I was waxing philosophical with one of my homies (aka personal training clients) and we were casually discussing the merits, or lack there of, for the Cupid’s Day. She’s not much of a Valentiner either.
But then she shared something that I think is awesome: Appreciation Day!

When I heard these words, instantly, I knew she was onto something.
She and her significant other pick a day, any day and call it Appreciation Day. They plan an activity to do together and take time to purposefully appreciate one another.

As this holiday has not been co-opted yet by Hallmark there aren’t any rules. This means you can make your own.

Appreciation Day can mean breakfast in bed, eating large vats of mac and cheese, long walk at the park —  it’s open for your interpretation.
What I love most about this idea is that there isn’t so darn much pressure that this one day is going to be the catalyst of your success or the nail in your relational coffin. That’s one of the reasons that I’ve long lost the lovin’ feeling for V-Day.

So, if like me, you are not much of a Feb. 14th celebrater then I offer you the day of your choice, the activity of your choice, to “appreciate” any and all you hold dear.

Sunshine & Sarcasm,

G
