Tuesday’s Torture Report is Back!!!: Detox juice, 100Miles, AB Challenge & Pocahontas

Back by popular demand, Tuesday’s Torture Report!  We have heard from many of you that you miss our weekly torture reports.  Apparently, you enjoy reading about the relentless ways we find to torture ourselves in the name of fitness and the fact that we aren’t very good at most of them.  So, we have moved all forms of joy, gratitude and #100 days of happiness to Thursdays and we will continue to bring you all the torture we can muster on Tuesdays!

(G) Rethinking detox juice

I saw a recipe on Facebook this week for a good detoxing juice. We Bartons are big into juicing so I thought I would give it a try. Among many other things it was chock full of Cilantro. You’ll notice in the photo below that there is a big pile of the herb. Let’s just say this herb has an attitude and packs a punch. I didn’t put the full measurement in and when I took a drink, I was left with the cough syrup face. You know, the face you make after you down some Robitussin. Yep, we need to rethink or rework that one!

Needing a boost and I am no “Insanity” Pocahontas

I gave myself the month of May to goof off, play around and not really worry too much about running. After my 6 months of hard-core training for the 50-miler I needed a mental break as much as a physical one. After a week, or so, I slowly returned to some short runs, kicked up the strength training and also fell into the Pocahontas peer pressure of Yogini.

But I am not an “Insanity” kind of girl. I have seen the infomercial at 4 am and I do not possess that kind of skill. You know, KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid). That said, a running website, www.ilovetorun.org, did pique my interest on Saturday. As of June 1, they are hosting a virtual event to run 100 miles in the month of June.

I apparently need a challenge to get it together so I signed up. I even made my training program, not only to be sure I get the 100 miles in, but also for the next 9 weeks to get ready for Howl at the Moon 8-Hour Trail Ultra.

(L) And Last, but not least…POCAHONTAS UPDATE!

IMG_4614

So, I am happy to announce that I, Pocahontas, was able to reconvene with nature this weekend.  Oh, how I love running on my trail in the mountains.  It’s beautiful, it’s quiet, I rarely see anyone else and whether I go for 3 miles or 6 miles, I feel fabulous when I am done.  There is something about running under the trees, over unstable bridges, across rocky outcroppings all while being at 9,000 feet that is exhilarating!

Also, while Pocahontas continues to be insane, I am only able to fit it in 3-4 days/week rather than the 6 that are prescribed.  Not that on the other days I possess any great wisdom, mind you, but I have to make room for some other workouts.  I am training, and I use that term loosely, for a half marathon June 28th.  It is appropriately called The Slacker Half-Marathon which is really what inspires me most. In fact, I may have a shirt made with the moniker, Slacker Pocahontas on the back!  What do you think?

Seriously, folks, I am working hard and I too signed up for that June100 mile challenge thing and 30-day Ab challenge.  No, I have no idea what I was thinking when I agreed to that.  I think I am just like let’s add it to my cross-training Pocapalooza!  Yes, I just made that up!

Stay tuned for progress on Becoming Pocahontas, Slacker Pocahontas and Pocapalooza next week in Tuesday’s Torture Report!

Sunshine & Sarcasm,
