L&G Morsels: Snacks, jars of happy and historical fiction

L&G Morsels

I don’t know about you, but we’re noticing a trend. Quite apparently we really have an FMB problem. Get your mind out of the gutter: a Food, Music, Books problem.
So far, every week, even though we don’t have set categories, we manage to always list music, a book and some food. And this week is no different,  except we have a new, ultra-descriptive category: Stuff. We thought you’d think it was clever as well. I really don’t know how we came up with it. Genius minds, I guess.

Food:

(G)  At my house, we have long been fans of Xochitl Tortilla Chips. While we try to be healthy, we generally are not the kind to fat-free our ice cream or lighten up our pizza. We go all in. If it’s junk, we don’t try to pretend otherwise. We get gluttonous with our bad selves.
BUT, and I have to tell you this part mostly because it makes me laugh, my husband is against too much salt not because it’s bad for him but because it makes him retain water. That’s right ladies, the old hubby wants to talk to chicas about “retaining water”. ANYWAY, I digress, this fabulous, gluten-free delight comes with a No Salt option. So check it out, olé!

(L) Okay, so over in Lowi’s corner of the world, I am loving Lucy’s Gluten Free Chocolate Chip Cookies.  I consider myself a connoisseur of chocolate chip cookies and these are good under any circumstances.  How good?  I’m not going to lie.  I ate four in about 10 minutes.   Give them a try if you are looking for gluten free yumminess.

Music

(G) While doing distance training I go through phases where I don’t listen to any music. And then things get serious and I am struggling. That’s when I need some serious musical intervention. I need something strong, tough and motivating. Lately, P!nk is fitting the bill. Especially songs like “Try.” It’s not even a fast song but if you listen to the words AND you’ve seen her rockin’ video it makes you think you can do it. Whatever “it” is!

And for all the Moms out there, beware when purchasing her music. The songs that have that lovely little E next to them.. That means explicit.. and it is 🙂

(L) Sometimes, I just can’t get a song out of my head.  For awhile now that song has been “Beneath Your Beautiful” by Labrinth featuring Emile Sande.  Love, Love, Love this song!

Books

(G) On my quest to read, well a lot of books this year, I am currently reading a book that you will swear I made up the title. It’s called “Never Wipe your A$$ with a Squirrel” by Jason Robillard. It’s a book about trail running, which might make the title less… odd. OK, maybe not. But weirdness aside, if you are thinking about trail running it has some really good tips in it and the author has a good sense of humor and can turn a phrase. I would quote some here but I don’t want to offend. I know after I told you the book title, we’re probably way past that.

(L) I’m not even sure where to begin after G’s book selection, but I am ordering that little diddy ASAP!

I love to read historical fiction and Sandra Dallas is my girl!  She has many wonderful reads, but one of my favorites is, “Tallgrass.”  It takes place in a small town in Colorado during WWII. There is murder, mystery and a Japanese Internment Camp down the road.  I know it doesn’t sound nearly as interesting as say…what you can and cannot do with squirrels, but it’s a great read!

Another interesting tidbit about Sandra Dallas is that she lives part-time in Georgetown, Colorado where I also happen to have a house.  I am not a stalker, but I do enjoy driving, biking and walking past her house occasionally.

Stuff
(G) Happiness jars: You may have, hopefully, read our blogs earlier this week about our happiness jar experiences. I really am loving both the happiness jar and the least negative thing that happened.. I love them both because it’s real. Depending on where we are in our lives one of these two jars speaks to us more than the other. And that really is what we wanted Lowi and G to be all about. Sometimes we really are sunshine and sometimes, darn it, sarcasm really fits the bill. Go with whatever works! And let us know.

      Susan,
I have read “The Husband’s Secret” and “The Fault in our Stars.” Loved both of them. The husband book kept me on the edge of my seat. I need another good book like this to read. We posted “The Fault in Our STars a couple of weeks ago on our Love List. You know it’s going to be a movie?? Thanks for posting all of your loves here. We look forward to seeing more of your loves here each week. Hope the arm is healing well?
