Bougie or No?!

Oh, the plight of the bougie grocery store shopper!

Listen, I like a nice grocery store.

I don’t want to have to wade through citronella candles, coolers, swimsuits, or school supplies to buy some produce. If I happen to need a niche spice for a dish I am trying out, I want to know that there is a 90% chance my favorite local grocery will have it.

I like nice things. I think everybody does. But my sister, Lisa, likes to say that where I choose to grocery shop is bougie. I suppose if having three different kinds of soy milk to choose from makes me bougie then so be it.

Grocery shopping is one of my least favorite things to do. It can feel like a big waste of time. I always seem to forget something on my list or my list altogether. So at the very least, when I go into the store, I can enjoy the beautiful flowers available and the perks of craft beer and fancy cheese (even if I don’t buy any of it).

I want to have the option to buy sorbet or dairy-free ice cream to binge if I wish to.

I am not a frilly gal. I don’t spend much on hair products, clothes, or handbags, so I guess this is my guilty pleasure, my splurge.

If wanting to buy saffron at the corner market is wrong, then I choose to be bougie instead. And here I am in a new state, with a new store… same bougie shopper.
