Life Lesson: Wake Up!

on

%22Keep your dreams alive. Understand to achieve anything requires faith and belief in yourself, vision, hard work, determination, and dedication. Remember all things are possible for those who believe.%22 Gail Devers

Have you ever woken up and thought, “yes, I am doing what I love.  I am actively working and living the dream.”

No?  Then what are you doing?  How often have you woken up and said to yourself, “I wish _______” and you can fill in the blank.

What is stopping you?  What is getting in your way?  Fear? It takes too much effort?  You think you missed the boat?

Recently, I was reading an article about fitness and the person had a before and after photo of her fitness journey.  Of course, my eye was drawn to the after photo. If you are like me, you see these photos and you immediately think, “yes, that is what I want to look like.”  And we want it NOW!  Then we realize how much work it is going to take to get that fit and we put off even beginning.

Have we forgotten how to work hard, put the hours in and have pride in our accomplishments?  I don’t think so.  I think that perhaps we have just gotten caught up in our society’s mindset of instant gratification and we need to be reminded that goals, faith, hard work, and determination pay off.  We forget that fear can be overcome and that boat?  It’s still sitting in the dock!

Maybe you’ve heard the story of the person who was lamenting that they really wanted to be a doctor, but they couldn’t because they were going to be 40 years old.  That person was still going to turn 40 whether they went to medical school or not so why not do what we love and live out our passion?

Tomorrow when you wake up ask yourself, what can I do today to get one step closer to my dream?”
