When you get a large group of people together, related or not, there’s bound to be a little weirdness in the mix. When you get a group of our people together there’s usually far more than a little. And we have not been disappointed. In the last several days we have, of course, been greeted by amazing kindness and gifts of generosity. We have also been “gifted” with other experiences that could only be described as awkward.
Lowi and I had an unfortunate interaction with a rather handsy family friend. He came to pay his respects to the family and let’s just say he was more than OK with an excuse to hug and paw us a bit. As only sisters can, we exchanged knowing and frightful looks until we could extricate ourselves from his clutches.
Then there was the 88-year-old who regaled me with how long she’s thought our Dad was so handsome, kind and, well, handsome. Then she deferred to me.
“Don’t you think he’s handsome?”
“Well, he’s my Dad?!”
Like I said, awkward…
While running some errands this week Lowi visited some of our cousins. Upon entering the house, she saw one of her favorites sitting on the couch. Having not seen him in quite literally years she expected some kind of response. Instead he just sat there watching the Broncos beat the Patriots.
Then Lowi said, “Hey loser, where is the love?” His response was priceless.
“Oh, hey, I thought you were G until…I saw all of you!”
“What does that mean?”
“You know. G is taller than you.”
What can I say? We have a special brand of DNA!
