Torture Report: Getting it Done & Staying Patient

(L)  Count with me now, 1, 2…yes two days of getting out and running this last week and I am pretty happy about that.  I didn’t run the full 3 miles that I normally walk, but I did run most of it and it felt..not terrible.  The dog thought it was awesome until about 2.75 miles and then he stopped abruptly and looked at me like, “hey crazy, not going down that hill because I know we have to run back up it to get home.  How about we just call it a day and go home?”

Yes, he said all of that in the look he gave me.  Samson and I speak the same language, but I did make that lazy beast go down the hill and back up before we went home.  And let me tell you it was totally worth it.  It got rid of all of the stress and nonsense I was feeling before I went out and ran.  I really do need that kind of exertion to keep my brain firing correctly.  So, I am going for 3 days this week.  Baby steps, people.

I also managed to get another 4 days of walking in so I didn’t forsake everything else I have been doing.  It definitely feels good to be getting back on track slowly but surely.

(G): Let’s start with the good news!!! I am pain-free in my foot. Woot Woot! YAY! Awesome sauce!
My left hip feels the best it has in about a year so I am really working on staying committed to full and complete recovery, healing and regrouping before I run another step.
It’s tough. Every time I am out walking I feel tempted to start running. Now I know it wouldn’t last long as I am woefully out of cardiovascular shape but still I am exercising restraint. I am practicing patience.
A big shout out to my acupuncture guru for giving me such great care over the last 7 weeks. Jill Nielsen-Farrell at Point to Point Community Acupuncture always greets me with warmth, care and a smile. That’s healing in and of itself.
Today, the healing train makes a stop for Muscle Activation Technique to start working on the hip. By not running, and getting acupuncture treatments as well, the inflammation and angriness has subsided so now it’s time to rehabilitate.
September officially ended but I am still eating well. Maybe not quite as many salads but still pretty darn good.
But in the interest of saving you time to Savor Fun, here’s a photo roundup of the week that was!

And it was raining, did I mention the rain?

There was rain and a chill in the air so I had to drag out some of the winterish clothes for a 10-miler on Friday.

The Torture Report began in January 2014 as a weekly update of our journey to completing a 50-mile race. Since then it’s continued on to become a chronicle of how we try mightily to find fitness, health and sometimes the finish line. We aren’t always successful but we keep showing up and telling you all about it on Tuesdays.
