There are some weeks that seem to pull out the ugly in all of us. You know what I am talking about. These are the weeks when our super sweet kids can’t do anything right, our spouses just have that look that annoys us, there is a long list of things that are going wrong and the stack is getting larger by the minute and…oh there might be 3 days in a row of weather-related school delays.
These are the weeks when we wish there was a reset button or at the very least a fast forward button!
Yesterday, as I reached the end of my proverbial rope I stopped, took a deep breath, looked at my happiness jar and said out loud all of the things I am grateful for today. I began with my spouse and my kids. As soon as I began thinking about all of the reasons I am grateful for them the annoyances disappeared. It’s absolutely impossible to be grateful and annoyed at the same time.
So, the next time you are feeling a little frazzled and short on patience take a step back and breathe in some gratitude.
“I don’t have to chase extraordinary moments to find happiness – it’s right in front of me if I’m paying attention and practicing gratitude.” ~ Brene Brown
