L&G Review: A Year as Bloggers

IMG_3722

(G) For 52 weeks, Monday through Friday, we have posted a blog and shared it with the world.

(L) Although, on the eve of most of those nights G went to bed hoping and praying that I remembered to do my part of the blog.  Often, she told me upon waking she was relieved or sometimes pleasantly surprised that I not only had written my part, but had added photos to her part!

Clearly, the whole world isn’t actually reading it but they could. I think that is the scariest thing about writing a blog like ours. We spend a lot of time telling you about ourselves. In particular, our shortcomings, failures, our hopes and dreams, and personal stories. And they are all “out there” for anyone to read, judge, criticize or otherwise. Although you’ve all been very kind, (thank you).  I would just like to add here that upon looking over the stats we have on occasion had 3 and 4 country bingo.  This is when we get readers from multiple countries on the same day! Thank you as this makes our whole day!

What we have learned:

  • The worst day can make the best blog
  • Being a searcher (code for being utterly lost most of the time) keeps writing interesting
  • We have some good friends who are willing to read our blog day after day and so far haven’t told us to shut up.
  • Some of our nicknames have really made an impression (Shakira and Johnny Armani are regularly referred to as such by others)
  • We also have readers who would rather not claim to be regular readers.  We know who you are!

Unintended gifts:

  • Writing a blog most days of the week really keeps me connected with Lowi. Although we have been known to go weeks and strictly plan and communicate via text.
  • We have an online biography of our life in the last year. While we have been sharing our favorites over the last couple of weeks there were things we even forgot.
  • We laugh a lot.
  • We have a built-in audience of accountability which keeps us on our toes!

This whole blogging thing has been a lesson in realizing that while many of us strive to not show weakness our most well-received blogs are on how we’ve blown it, imploded or liquified in some way. Now, sure some just like to watch a good train wreck but I believe most of you are reading thinking “You, too?! Thank God I am not alone.”

The first blog we posted I didn’t know what to expect or what feedback we’d get. Or if we’d get any at all. And then gradually we remembered why we decided to write a blog. It was meant to be a project for us as sisters. We even pronounced as much on day one on our About Us page.

We are self-proclaimed gratitude junkies; sarcastic, striving and struggling zen masters.  We are committed to happiness, living fulfilling lives, being good enough, getting help and helping others and ourselves.

This was (and is) really about us and whether anyone read it was secondary. Don’t get me wrong we love it when a blog resonates with you and we have a “big” day but it had to be bigger than hustling for the numbers. If that was it then it became a job and that’s the day we stop being who we are and start being who we think you want us to be.  We have had a lot of discussions about this very thing.  On occasion we have gotten caught up in our game of 3 country bingo and how many people have read our blog, but then one of us always brings us back to “why.”  Why are we doing this?  Because we love to tell stories, constantly be learning and always laugh.  If you decide to take the journey with us it’s a bonus!
I don’t know what will happen with the blog next year and what new incarnation it will take. I am, however, pretty sure our Lowi & G World Domination Tour will begin soon …

Bring it 2015!

Sunshine & Sarcasm,

Lowi & G
