Torture Report: Taper Weeks and Roller Skating!

(G) It took me a good 4-5 days to really get past the serious soreness in my legs from last week’s adventures and since we are on the countdown to our last race of the year I took it a little easier this week.

I did still throw in a hill workout, some basic mileage and a lonely 10-mile training run on the treadmill but otherwise the week was filled with the joy that is tapering. I really love taper weeks, it seems it’s really the only times I ever get anything done at my house. The week after a race I could possibly accomplish something but I am so damn busy lounging and eating anything that’s not nailed down that I don’t get much done.
But taper weeks are the things of sunshine and light. Mostly my free time has been spent finding head lamps, duct tape, gloves, you know, the usual fare for an ultra 🙂
Kundalini yoga and acupuncture
Post-10 miler on Saturday I woke up to an extra hour of sleep on Sunday thanks to the time change! Delight! Then I went to a Kundalini yoga class that culminates in acupuncture in fantastic recliners next to a nice warm fire. Heaven.
So I chanted, did breath of fire, sang some very sweet, endearing songs, meditated and then got my true zen on with the needle fairy.

Bounce house
Yes the rebounding persists. I have my own version of a zen bounce house going here. I never get tired of how it makes me feel. It’s almost like sitting in one of those massage chairs but a tiny bit more work but same effect achieved.

Stay tuned for next week’s tale of adventure after the Croatan 24 Hour. So far our goals are mightily simplistic. Johnny Armani would like to make it to sunset. That should be easier given the time change and I just want to see what happens given there has been much less serious training. I am looking at this as the party at the end of the race year. A little bit of running, a little bit of walking, and a whole lot of fun.

Oh torture report, why are you always hanging over my head?  Seriously, I get one written and I feel like perhaps I could slack off a little, but no, there you are looming right around the corner!  And then there is G who is bouncing, yogacizing, running, training, acupunturing and kunda….well, you get the idea.  It’s hard to keep up with the incessant training.  Let’s face it I am a slacker and with nothing on the horizon to train for I pretty much could go back to bed.  With the exception of that spare tire that wants me to carry it around I really have no reason to do anything.  But since I don’t want to carry anything extra around I am still getting my 3 miles in each day and several days/week I even manage to get an extra 2-3 miles of running in.  I am proud to say that I went without sugar for nearly a month before I fell off the wagon.  It really wasn’t my fault.  I was hit in the head with a pumpkin, run over by my wagon and I woke up with a chocolate wrapper in my hand…damn Halloween!  I am detoxing until Thanksgiving because I really have been feeling great!  Oh and even with my sugar lapse I am down 4 pounds.  No, it is not melting off, but again it’s going in the right direction.

Maybe I will take up roller skating again.  I was pretty skinny back in the day and that was my main form of exercise when I was 13!

Let’s give G and Johnny Armani a shout out as they travel to yet another ultra race this week.  Some people are slow learners.

I love ya G but i think your sister is my tribe–team linger in bed, accidental chocolate eater, slacker. I’m getting T shirts made.
