Are you there blog? It’s me, Shakira

Editor’s Note: It’s a first for Lowi & G, we have a GUEST BLOGGER! We are so excited. Today, our funny story comes to you from Jill Kranstuber aka Shakira. She was along for the 50 for 40 adventure.

My hips lied. They told me that I would never be able to walk more than 20 miles of this crazy 50-mile goal of G’s. They told me that I wouldn’t be able to run. They told me that I would be miserable attempting this crazy feat. They lied! I accomplished a 50K (31 miles) and managed to actually run some of it. And I loved every minute of it.

My hips didn’t know that I have a friend named G who is crazy and able to talk me into her crazy ideas. (By the way, if you are lucky enough to have a crazy friend with crazy ideas, do what she says, no questions asked. You’ll thank her later.) My hips didn’t know about her amazing sister, Lowi, who has an amazing friend named Mary. My hips didn’t know that I will now have a lifelong bond with these amazing women because we did something amazing together. They accomplished the full 50 miles and I’m so proud of them!! I’m proud of me also!! We will always remember that weekend. All of the laughter, private jokes and tears will stick in my memory forever. These women rock!!!!!

My hips also didn’t know about Johnny Armani, the best crew chief in the world!

I may have flipped him off a few times for yelling things like “Only 22 more hours to go!” or “I can see you doing 50 miles!” or “You should go for a 100k!” but I am forever grateful to him. If it hadn’t been for Mr. Armani’s encouragement, taunting and pushing of food and liquids, I know that I couldn’t have made it as far as I did.

Surprisingly, my hips feel fine after this race. (Don’t ask me about my feet.) This race has done wonders for my self-confidence and self-esteem. I have gained lifelong friends.

I have realized that I can push myself and succeed even if I am almost 50!! (My celebration for my 50th will be anything involving a cocktail and a seat.)

Thank you G for turning 40 and having insane ways of celebrating. I feel lucky to call you my friend. Happy birthday!!!
