You were thinking more like love and marriage? Nope, love and sarcasm more accurately go together. It’s a marriage that I (and possibly, Lowi) think is most valuable.
Why, you ask?
I have a lot of sarcasm to go around but just because it’s aplenty does not mean I share it with everyone. I have standards for who gets to participate in my sarcasm. I don’t let just anyone partake. Just like we have standards in love relationships, I have them in my bonds of sarcasm. In essence, I joke because I care. If I don’t really dig you or feel that you just don’t “get me”, then I am certainly not going to waste any of my, self-determined, hilarity on you.
Rules of Sarcastic Engagement:
1. You have to be funny and make me laugh
2. You have to appreciate sarcasm
3. You need to have a dark wit
4. You need to be quick-witted
5. You are not easily offended
6. You enjoy verbal jujitsu
7. You must be willing to make fun of yourself
In my years, I have learned that not everyone deserves to enjoy my sarcasm. The people who take it personally, don’t think it’s funny or just really want to be super-duper, happy cheerful about everything need not apply.
I want happiness for the next person as much as myself. I believe in random acts of kindness and paying it forward. But I also believe in laughing my butt off when something happens that’s so wrong it’s right. I believe a smirk and a well-placed eye roll can be more powerful than anything else.
I want to be able to wake up in the morning, look at my husband and say “You, again?” And we can all laugh.
I want to be able to enjoy the absurdity that my niece has to come up with a stage name because her legal name has already been co-opted by a porn star. (Find out more at this link)
We could have cried over our failed photo shoot (find out more at this link) but instead we mocked, we laughed, laughed harder and then shared it with you.
In fact, this entire blog is mostly about poking fun in an attempt to find happiness.
Where do you find your happiness?
Sarcasm, Amen!
Peace out,
G
