L&G Morsels: Spring Break Selfies, Herbs and Super Love!

L&G Morsels

Experiences:

(L)  We have all had those experiences where we wish we could replay a moment.  You know the ones where you ask yourself, “why did I not record that?”  Well, last Friday night was one of those moments.  We were in Georgetown at our favorite bar/restaurant, Lucha, and Sydney had the opportunity to sing a couple of sets.  The first set was great.  She sang four of her newest originals and she sounded great.  It was the second set that things were different.

The bar was noisy, the Sweet 16 was playing on 3 big screen TVs and there were 30 seconds left in the Michigan State/Virginia game.  Sydney decided to put her guitar down and shake things up.  She made a few comments and began singing “House of the Rising Sun” a cappella.   The place went silent.  Nobody was watching the game.  Time literally stopped for about 15 seconds and I remember looking around thinking, “what is happening?”  She definitely brought the house down and let’s just say it looks like she has a regular gig every other Saturday at Lucha.  Way to go Sydney.

(G) As someone who was home in Ohio and missing all the awesomeness of Sydney singing, I concur on the above 🙂

Book:

(L) The Girl You Left Behind by Jojo Moyes is a fabulous book set in 1916 during WWI and today.  The story centers around a woman named Sophie whose husband is at war and the Germans have occupied her small village and her hotel. This story transcends decades and leaves you wondering what happened to Sophie.  Love and mystery keep you on the edge of your seat. Don’t worry, this time Moyes doesn’t leave you hanging.

Apps

(G) This isn’t a new thing but I am all about my love and appreciation for Evernote.
I will forever be indebted to my good friend, Julie, who turned me onto Evernote. It is a free, online journal of sorts but it helps disorganized peeps like me get it together.
There are probably millions of ways to utilize it but I will tell you my go-to uses. I use it to keep track of all our fun blogs for L&G and then all the files are in one folder.

But my most-valued use is organizing recipes. When I first started eating a vegan diet, recipes were a constant need of mine. Instead of printing out a recipe and and then, as I am prone to do — never locating it again — I can save it in a folder on Evernote. Then voila, I have it forever. No printing makes the tree-hugger in me happy.

Herbs
(G) Oil of Oregano is the cat’s meow of mother nature’s herbs. I know you thought cat nip was, and I suppose it really is, but oregano also has it going on. Oil of oregano is a powerful anti-viral and a must-have in a natural medicine cabinet. I take it when I think I am getting a cold, been around someone who’s sick or to give my immune system an occasional boost. I also add it to my coconut oil in the morning when oil pulling (that is an entirely different story). As always, remember, I am not a doctor so don’t take my word for it, ask your doc or homeopath.

Sunshine
(G) Speaking of cat’s meow, it seems that I am not the only one who is thrilled that the sun and some warmer temperatures have made an appearance in O-H-I-O! My fur ball, aka sun dial, Parsley was rolling around in heated glee earlier this week.

Clothes

(G) For those of you who know me well, you know that I should have been born a few decades earlier so I could have indulged in the flower-power era. That, of course, explains why I am love, love, loving the Super Love Tees on Etsy. They are yummy, soft T-shirts and the owner is all about Fair Labor. So you can have your peace, love and understanding with a dash of good karma.
