Tuesday’s Torture Report #5: Recovery, Fuel, Johnny Armani and Moms

Thankfully, there isn’t much torture to report this week. The last seven days delivered to me the joy and rejuvenation that is a recovery week. Early on in the week I wasn’t all that impressed with the recovery process. I still felt tired doing my normal distance runs on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. I was thinking that it wasn’t all it was cracked up to be. And then Saturday arrived. I ran 10 miles and I was done… the heavens parted, I heard angels sing… OK maybe it wasn’t that amazing but it was great. Then only 6 miles on Sunday and I was feeling refreshed. If I didn’t believe in rest and recovery before, I do now. I am raring to go for 52 miles this week. I reserve the right to change my tune by next Tuesday.

Lowi’s update:

And to that I say, “Speak for yourself G!”  Every bit of my week felt like torture.  I have decided after much deliberation that I need more fuel for my training.  I have just not been feeling well.  So, I am hydrating more than I thought possible and I am eating more than I think I need in hopes of regaining some energy.  I have also decided to run a half marathon in early April to add a little excitement to my training.

I think the most exciting thing that happened this week is that John, “Johnny Armani” Barton officially signed on to be a member of our race crew. Okay, so he is the only member of our race crew.  He has his tent and tackle box and he is ready to cheer, aid, feed, motivate and video all of the happenings during our 50 miles of fun!

It sounds like Shakira, I mean, Jill, was able to get back out on the trail again and log some more miles.  Go Shakira!

Mary has been battling a sinus infection that just won’t go away, but she is still racking up the miles.

I think she summed up the week best when she said,

“this fulltime mom thing is really starting to get in the way of my training.”

 11 weeks and counting….

Tuesday’s weekly Torture Report is designed to keep all of you posted on the insanity of training for a race to celebrate G’s 40th birthday. The goal is 50 miles but we’ll see how it goes. To find out more on how this plan was set in motion, check out Lowi’s blog. If you missed the last Torture Report, you can catch up here.
