Tuesday’s Torture Report #2

This week has brought running antics, agony of defeat and not a lot of miles for 1/2 of the 40 for 40 team.  Mary, our speedy team member, took a hard fall on her 8-mile run this week.  Four miles into her run, she made a U-turn that landed her face first on the sidewalk and her phone broken in the middle of the street.  She hurts to say the least, but she knows how fortunate she is to just have scrapes and bruises. Here’s to a healthier, safer week.

I didn’t get in a lot of mileage this week due to some family obligations, but I still managed to run 4 days and get a very long day of cross training in on the slopes!

While running on the treadmill this week. Samson, aka Marley, figured out that dropping the tennis ball on the treadmill while it’s being used gets a lot of attention AND it’s fun chasing it off the back!

Needless to say, Samson has not been invited back into the workout room!

And then there is G.

I had the luxury of a “recovery” week so I only had 28 miles on the agenda for the week. Although I am ramping up this next week to a total of 48 miles and staring down the barrel of a 22-mile run on Saturday. Thankfully, my training has not been as eventful as others.

Although, I was able to work myself up into a respectable panic attack after doing some strategizing with my husband. Some “suggestions” were: start running in heavier clothes on the treadmill a couple days a week to simulate Florida heat (I am doing a 50K in Everglades in February), and plan a couple long runs that I will do late at night to get used to running late in the day. His example was to start running around 8 or 9 p.m. and end around 1 a.m. Oh yes, and run on the treadmill (since it will be late) but turn all the lights off except the TV and wear a headlamp. That’s not weird, is it?

12 weeks to go and counting.

Tuesday’s weekly Torture Report is designed to keep all of you posted on the insanity of training for a race to celebrate G’s 40th birthday. The goal is 50 miles but we’ll see how it goes. To find out more on how this plan was set in motion, check out Lowi’s blog. If you missed the last Torture Report, you can catch up here.
