(G) Thanksgiving has always been one of my favorite holidays. I am guessing it’s because there isn’t any actual shopping that needs to get done but more importantly I LOVE to EAT!
That said, I am sure there are some equally enjoyable Thanksgivings to share but one of my faves happened almost 14 years ago when the whole family came into town to celebrate Thanksgiving AND to attend my wedding.
Lowi and I ran the Turkey Trot Thanksgiving morning. Who knew that one five-mile run would lead to so many other running antics in the future?
So we ran and then post-shower bellied up to the table at our Aunt Susie’s house. We shoveled in some good food and rested up before the big weekend ahead of us began. It was such a great time having everyone around for the holiday and our wedding.
It’s all good memories of everyone being together, having fun and also Lowi’s two daughters were the most adorable flower girls.
(L) So, rather than share a different favorite Thanksgiving I thought I would share my version of the SAME holiday weekend.
Let’s start with that 5-mile run, shall we? Even back then G was convincing me to run things that I really had no business running. I vaguely remember the conversation going something like this:
G– “Hey, we should run a 5 mile Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning.”
Lowi – “Hey, that sounds great except for the fact that I haven’t been running.”
G – “That doesn’t matter, its just 5 miles. Anyone can run 5 miles. Besides its practically on the OSU campus. You can practically run it in your sleep. Oh, and we get a pumpkin pie when we are finished.”
Lowi – “Okay, I’m in.”
Let me add that it was cold, I didn’t have the appropriate clothing and we were so slow that we did not actually receive a pumpkin pie. In fact, I think she may have lied about the pie just to get me to run. She has a tendency to make things seem more appealing than they actually are.
Yes, we did in fact belly up to the table for some enjoyable food. I, unlike G, had two Thanksgiving dinners that day because we went to my hubby’s family, too. I was sufficiently full to say the least.
I do remember it was a beautiful wedding and all of us were in it, including my two oldest girls. They thought for sure they were royalty that weekend as they had these beautiful velvet capes that they wore everywhere and we were picked up in a limo! I am pretty sure they still think Thanksgivings in Ohio are grand affairs with velvet, flowers, receptions and limousine service wherever you need to travel. This is the real reason we have not been able to attend Thanksgiving in Ohio ever again! Maybe when they are in their 20s they will be able to handle the truth.
Share one of your favorite Thanksgiving memories in the comments section below.
Sunshine & Sarcasm,
Lowi & G
