Favorite Thanksgiving Recipes

Thanksgiving with G and cousin, Tucker, circa 1984?

While each family has their own set of traditions we also have our own set of recipes that we only pull out at Thanksgiving. We have a huge family and along with that comes a huge Thanksgiving feast. Over the years that menu has grown as more of us have input as to what MUST be part of this once a year feast. In fact, we have so much food that our mother has been known to write on her countertops as to what goes where.  Yep, she is organized like that. There are also certain dishes that only certain people are allowed to bring.  For example, Uncle Larry is the all time bringer of the applesauce, Aunt Susie is in charge of the German Chocolate Cake, G brings the vegan meal and mom is in charge of the turkey, yeast rolls and all of the trimmings.  Alcohol is a newer tradition, but one that has become necessary as the family has grown.

While Lowi is no longer part of the BIG family feast she puts on her own clinic in Colorado with the guest list growing each year. While she has not resorted to writing on her countertops, yet, she does cook similar food. And she, too, has designated people to bring that special dish!

So, what are some of our favorite recipes?  It’s not Thanksgiving without yeast rolls and stuffing according to Lowi. And G?

As the resident vegan I gotta represent!

Each year there is some turkey replacement, although so far there hasn’t been any real winners, Tofurky, Gardein, Field Roast… they’re all OK but at this point I am moving on. This year, we’re giving a lentil loaf a roll of the dice. Who knows?

But the must-haves are cinnamon rolls, mashed potatoes (non-dairy milk), dressing and after last year, butternut squash risotto. Um, yum!
