(G) Cupcakes and Twizzlers, ahem, I mean kale and broccoli!
Guilty! Those are some of my favorite snacks when I am feeling like I need something sweet or just am stress-eating. But as we shared last week, Lowi & G have gone sugar-free. There was likely a brief period where I was possibly all sarcasm and no sunshine but I think I’ve returned back to center. Or as close to center as I get.
There were a few touch-and-go moments. Here are some low-lights.
Day 2
Texting support with Lowi
G: … I’d kill for a cupcake right about now
Lowi: Lol!! Don’t do it!!
G: Kill someone or eat a cupcake?
Lowi: Hahahaha. Depends, who are you gunning for??
Day 4
I’d really like some sugar but I can’t so I am just going to go to bed.
Day 6
Umm, what do you mean Shot Bloks are sugar? Can I do a long run without a sugar boost?
Day 8
My addiction is waning. I don’t NEED a cupcake but I sure as hell would enjoy one if given the opportunity 🙂
Namasté, Sugar!
Pilates
Well, I did it! I went to my Pilates one-on-one introduction and thankfully I didn’t embarrass myself by falling off the reformer or anything. My instructor did ask me if I had any goals and I told her I’d like to run a 100K at a race next year. She gave me a rather blank stare. I am not sure if that meant she was doing the kilometers-to-miles math in her head or she thought: There’s no way this girl is a runner 🙂

Rebounding Rocks
Back to the trampoline we go! I am digging on my trampoline once again. Jumping for 30 minutes every day. It makes me feel like I am getting away with something and it’s a great immune system booster.. win/win!

100 miles?
Well all this taking it easy and caring for my burned-out runner’s brain has made my tally climb much more slowly. In fact, I really had abandoned the whole idea until I realized that finally, after 19 days in October, I am at 78 miles. I think I can, I think I can …

Lost and Wish I’d Lost
Out on the trail Saturday I managed to lose my fun, sparkly headband. I looked around when we doubled back but never did find it. I suppose a very festive deer is now enjoying it.
While going through some photos that Johnny Armani took during our run I realized I wish I’d lost my new running tights. Not, of course, while running, but now after witnessing these tights from the rear (which I will not show you) in photos let’s just say it’s not my best look. So here’s to the dryer eating my running tights much like it does the mate to every sock.
(L) PocaLoca is still Sugar-Free
I AM TWO WEEKS SUGAR-FREE! I am feeling pretty good about this. In fact, I feel like I deserve a 14-day coin or something like they give in AA. I am not making light of AA here, I am totally serious. If I doubted it before I no longer do. My name is PocaLocaLowi and I am addicted to SUGAR! I told G, I really want to just be able to have it now and then, but that is the addict speaking and I am not sure I can be trusted to eat just one piece of chocolate.
I will say the strong urge to chew my arm off has subsided. Did I mention that I am also unofficially off diet soda? I don’t drink this everyday or even every week, but let’s just say a tall, cold Diet Pepsi with a bag of M&Ms has gotten me through more than one afternoon. So, what’s a girl do with no sugar and no thirst-quencher? I found a bottle of carbonated water, no sugars or artificial sweeteners and no sodium. It’s basically Pellegrino with a drive by of raspberry flavor. I brought it into the house poured myself a glass and every single member of my family had to taste it. The consensus among them is that they are never going to touch it! Awesome! So, when I am feeling like I need something slightly sweet, that isn’t an actual fruit I am going to have some of my new-found bubbly!
Some more good news…My back is essentially pain-free! I seriously think the sugar detox has caused the inflammation to subside and now my pain is almost completely gone. At about 10 days I woke up one morning and realized that I no longer was a 44-year-old woman in a 90-year-old body and let me tell you, I was relieved! This in itself is a fabulous reason to stay off the white stuff. I am still walking my 3 miles most days AND I am happy to announce that I did a few 30-minute runs!
Looks like I might be able to get back on track to becoming PocaLocaLowi!
Sunshine & Sarcasm,
Lowi & G
