Beet Juice
Lookout folks, the reaping rewards season has begun. Johnny Armani, aka Urban Farmer, has harvested the first few batches of beets and celery to make his homegrown beet juice. Not all the juice’s ingredients were grown by him but about 50% was so he’s feeling pretty good about himself.
Our beets didn’t plump up in the dirt as we’d hoped but they still taste good.

ALS ice bucket challenges
As the ALS ice bucket challenge has gone way more than viral it’s no shock that Lowi and I were called out this week; some of us more than once. It’s a great example of what can happen when everyone does what they can, just a little, and it seemingly overnight becomes a movement! That’s awesome and amazing. We all have charities and causes that are near and dear to our hearts based on life experiences, struggles and illnesses that have come our way.
This is a call to action for wherever your passion lies. There are hundreds, or likely thousands, of charities and organizations out there doing great work for even better people.
Find out how you can help, give of your time/money and get involved.

And just for fun, here’s our challenges:

Shakira worked some crazy magic to make my ice bucket challenge a memorable one!

Samson really tries to get in on the ice bucket challenge, too

Buckwheat parfait

It always comes back to food for me… a lot. I have been experimenting looking for better breakfast choices as I am trying to get away from processed breakfasts like cereal, toast; as well as reduce my gluten consumption.

This week I have been giving Easy Overnight Buckwheat Parfaits a whirl!

I haven’t followed the recipe exactly because I don’t really enjoy bananas but I do need to make the strawberry nut cream cause that looks just good enough to be worth the effort.

I am not posting a photo of my handiwork because it doesn’t look as pretty as the website shots I linked above.

Sunshine & Sarcasm,
