After you read this, snakes on a plane will seem way more plausible. That of course, makes me want to squeal already!
A couple weeks ago I got a call from our Mom on a Sunday afternoon. She tells me that she called to tell me WHAT she FOUND in her car. Now, if you’re like me, you can find sunglasses, old cookies, crumbs from multiple meals, a yoga mat, weights and various running attire in my car. But I am guessing by the ramped up way she is talking that none of these things are what she found.
G: What did you find?
Mom: A snake!
G: WHAT?
How is there a snake in her Prius?

This is a great time to stop for the full-on shivers that you will get thinking about finding a snake in your car. We will take a few of these breaks, so no worries.
I know you want to know, as did we, how this all unfolded. Was she driving? Did it slither up her leg?
Insert second, and certainly not last, shiver moment.
Thankfully the answer to both of those questions was no. She wasn’t driving and it didn’t touch her. She opened the car door and the snake was on the driver’s side floor board. Being the industrious woman that our mom is and also not wanting to let the little reptile out of her sight once she realized it was IN HER CAR, she got an instrument of removal. She used, what else, a winter window ice scraper to retrieve the slithering sucker out of her car.
She got it out of the car and onto the concrete in the garage. My parents’ dogs then quickly got in on the act and the snake hid underneath something in the garage. There was minor concern about where it went but we were all relieved it was out of the car.
Needless to say she was disturbed by the discovery. In the days prior to this “nature adventure” in her car, my mom had carted my 9-year-old niece in the back seat of the car and my grandma. That would have been scarring for both of them.

We spent the next several minutes trying to come up with a logical way that a snake, yes a SNAKE, got in her car!!
She had spent some time with the car door open, there had been a lot of rain, it got cooler so maybe the snake was looking for warmth? We were sure it had plenty to eat while in the car because as my mom had assured us there were enough French fries and jelly beans to last it for some time.
We weren’t really sure but did it matter?
Then about 15 minutes later she calls me back after talking to my dad. They deduced that she had transported two big flower pots in her car and easily a snake could’ve hitched a ride. But the part next part will blow your mind. Prepare to insert squeal here!!!
The moving of said flower pots had occurred more than a week earlier. So a snake was in her car, with her, traveling, FOR A WEEK!
(insert another necessary shiver moment when you really think about driving around with a snake in your car for a WEEK)
OMG!
Now every day, she is thinking she is hearing “something moving” in her car. It has skeeved us out. So here’s to no more snakes in a Prius, plane or anyplace else it doesn’t belong.
Insert one more shiver moment. Now shake it off and move about your day.
