Torture Report #11: Mojo alert, hurry up already and zen!

(L) I am not going to lie I am starting to freak out.  We have 5 weeks until the race and as I told you last week, I have been having a hard time finding my mojo.  I was logging a lot of miles, being very disciplined and now I just want it to get here.

With the help of Samson, I did, however, catch a glimpse of my mojo this week.

In solidarity with G, I ran in the dark at 8:30 pm on Friday night…for two miles. It was great and then I remembered that running in the dark for practice was not on my to-do list, so I stopped.

I have been running 5 miles/day. All I can say is that I have no desire to run more than 5 miles right now. I really hope being at sea level, laughing with friends/family will see me through! I need to get Samson and look really hard for that distance mojo!!

Shakira has been getting some PT for her knees and is hoping to feel better soon.  She is pushing through the pain and is determined to party with us on the 26th, I mean…run.

Mary, has been plagued by an upper respiratory infection and logged a lot of sleep this past week.  Time to get healthy, girls!

(G) This week was a recovery week which meant that I was laying low on miles and giving my body and mind a chance to rest. This was seriously needed. It’s been tough sledding the last three weeks and I really needed some down time to recharge.

Early in the week it was status quo on miles. The usual fare of 4, 8, and 6 on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. I think that even if I had a bout of amnesia at this point I would know to run those distances on those days. Although that’s about to get a shake up this upcoming week.

I felt like I was playing hooky because my longest run was 10 miles. I ran on the treadmill while watching Gabrielle Bernstein’s Manifest Miracles Now workshop. It turned out to be a kind of trippy, zen-like experience. I don’t often run while meditating, in earnest, and thinking about being more spiritually centered. It was fun. OM!

As Lowi was saying, the training is starting to get long and I think it’s mental more than anything. We’re all so ready for race day to just get here. ( You know, until it gets here and then we’ll freak out about that.)
Sunday I was not feeling it. I wasn’t really all that tired I just didn’t feel like running. It was cold, very windy and the treadmill needs to be retired for a new season in the worst way. So I just avoided it. I went to the grocery, made granola and soup, and even worked on my taxes. I know, avoidance much?

But then I had realized I wasn’t against movement I just didn’t really want structure so Johnny Armani and I headed out for some nice walking time and an opportunity to catch up. I was “supposed” to do 8 miles but I gladly settled for 6 walking. Let’s be honest there’s no shame in walking out this 50-miler!

5 weeks and counting…

Sunshine & Sarcasm,

Lowi & G

Tuesday’s weekly Torture Report is designed to keep all of you posted on the insanity of training for a race to celebrate G’s 40th birthday. The goal is 50 miles but we’ll see how it goes. To find out more on how this plan was set in motion, check out Lowi’s blog. If you missed the last Torture Report, check it out here.
