Torture Report #10: Night running, nicknames and stolen mojo!

(G) I spent some time in the dark and seeing the light this last week. Early on in the week, we enjoyed some beautiful weather. Shakira and I met up at the park for some good mileage. Wednesday arrived with a 70-degree temperature drop, which put me back in the basement on the treadmill. Don’t get me wrong I really appreciate that I have it but we have spent way too much time together.

On Friday came my long-planned night run with a headlamp.

In case you aren’t sure, that’s my headlamp selfie!

As I mentioned weeks ago in the torture report, Johnny Armani suggested running late into the night and early morning to see how that feels.  Well, it turns out it didn’t take much to realize it feels like you’d think. The anticipation of this run created quite a lot of fun banter from my fellow 24-hour compadres and the invention of my new nickname. As you can see my sister especially found the whole idea quite entertaining: FB posts

Although in 12 hours my nickname was given and morphed.  Impressive… Crazy Horse or Dark Horse… hard to say what will stick.

I wrapped it up with a 10-mile bow on Sunday. This week, blissfully, is a recovery week. I am jazzed!!!

(L) Let me start by saying that last week I lost my mojo and after speaking with G, I believe she stole it!  I can’t prove it of course, but let’s face it anyone who is willing to practice running in the dark with a headlamp surely has more mojo than any one person should be allowed.  I spoke with G regarding her slight bout of insanity and it seems that she understands that an intervention is imminent.  The intervention will not involve any running, but copious amounts of sleep, TV watching while on sofa (something she is not accustomed to) and alcohol (wait, that’s how we got ourselves into this mess in the first place).  Scratch alcohol, copious amounts of chocolate and yes, she can have vegan chocolate!

Seriously, folks this whole running thing is really beginning to take its toll on all of us.  If you read G’s blog yesterday you know it’s starting to mess with our heads.  I think I speak for Crazy Horse (G), Shakira and the yet to be nick-named, Mary, when I say things are getting tough and we are all just ready for April 26th to get here.  When I say ready, I mean ready for it to be over.  Not that 3 of the 4 of us are physically ready for this 50 miles, but we are spending so much time thinking about it that it just needs to happen. Some days I think I can endure anything even if I have to walk the majority of it.  Other days I am not convinced I can even do a quarter of it!  So, with just over a month to go I will see what I am really made of and get back to you.

6 weeks and counting…

Tuesday’s weekly Torture Report is designed to keep all of you posted on the insanity of training for a race to celebrate G’s 40th birthday. The goal is 50 miles but we’ll see how it goes. To find out more on how this plan was set in motion, check out Lowi’s blog. If you missed the last Torture Report, check it out here.
