Summertime Blues

So, if you are a mom and you are reading this, it’s okay.  You aren’t alone.  I’m also sitting here thinking about a daughter moving, mapping out the distance, wondering if she is prepared to be that far away, wondering if I am prepared for her to be that far away, thinking about how proud I am of her and how excited I am for this next adventure. 

The In-Between

If vacations, graduations, and big life events were our only moments with these kids, I would be grateful for the time, but I know that so much life is happening in the days, weeks, and months between our visits.

Our Final Graduation

When your kids are little and you have your head down just down doing the day to day crazy of raising a family, it’s hard to conceive of a day where that isn’t your life.  You know it happens, but it just feels so far away.

The Christmas Gathering: Update

As I put the prime-rib in the oven, the dogs were barking and the boys were busy trying out our holiday drink concoctions, I wondered for a brief moment if it was all going to come together.  Then I remembered that this chaos also belonged to everyone that was invited.  These dogs were their grand-dogs and half of these adult kids belonged to them as well.  I sent a quick text to remind them all that our chaos was their chaos and I hoped they were prepared.

The middle is always where the good stuff lives whether you are talking about cookies, parties, or life and it’s where the memories are made.

Gathering the Un-Gathered

Unlike Thanksgiving, Christmas is an entire season and I couldn’t call my friends to ask if we could spend Thanksgiving to New Year’s with them, could I?  Well, maybe I could, but I decided the grown-up thing to do was to change my perspective.
