pres·ence: ˈprezəns
the state or fact of existing, occurring, or being present in a place or thing. Existence, being there
The opposite of presence is absence
In the spirit of arriving to January 1 and being able to recall and appreciate some of the last 31 days we are embarking on infusing Presence into the month of December.
On Mondays, we will post the theme for the week on our blog and in our Facebook Event: Practicing Presence. The rest of the week we’ll post solely in the event on Facebook. You can expect to see quotes, photos or a combination related to the week’s concept.
Our hope is that at least once each week, these posts remind you to slow down a bit and take in fully an experience. And further give those you are with the gift of having your full presence with them.
Be in the Season
This week, many of us are still shaking our heads and can’t believe Thanksgiving is over and that December is upon us. In an effort to Be Present, let’s take some time to intentionally reflect on what it means to Be in the Season. Regardless of what holiday you celebrate, or if you celebrate any at all, you can’t easily escape the hubbub with which December arrives. There is a certain amount of intensity, expectation and to-dos that are intricately woven into this month.
So before it gets into true full swing, on this first day of December we invite you to think about how you want to “Be in the Season.”
- Do you want to be calm centered and relaxed?
- Would you prefer to be joyful and quick to smile and enjoy?
In a season such as this if we don’t thoughtfully consider how we’d like to show up, what often happens is out of habit. And if you don’t handle expectation, obligation, sleep-deprivation and shortened days well, then you may end up arriving into the new year feeling a little battered.
Take a few minutes, or more if you can spare it, and consider how you’d like to “be” this holiday season. Please share with us in the comments below or in our Facebook event Practicing Presence.
