There has been quite a lot going on for me lately. This got me thinking about one of my salvations when things get rough or challenging.
While family and friends are obvious go-tos when life gets you down, my other emotional refuge is reading. Books have been an amazingly fulfilling part of my life for decades.
The first time I can remember being carried away by a book, I was in the fourth grade during Right to Read Week. “Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH” solidified my love of books and reading. Even all these years later I can remember how going on that fantastical ride made me feel.
Many books have filled the time from then to now — far too many to count.
As an adult, books have entertained me, taught me and, in some dark times, comforted me and showed me the way out.
Some highlights are:
A Return to Love, Marianne Williamson
The Notebook, Nicholas Sparks
Add More ~ing to Your Life, Gabrielle Bernstein
To the Edge, by Kirk Johnson
The Power of Now, Eckhart Tolle
Broken Open, Elizabeth Lesser
Better stop there, I am starting to see that there are way too many highlights. I am so thankful for this gift of books and reading; without them my life would be much less rich.
Peace out,
G
